Excursions in Utrecht

De Boomgaard is situated in a special place: near the bustling city of Utrecht with the Dom Tower and the old canals. Near Fort Vechten, the largest fort of the Dutch Waterline (World Heritage) and near the nature park De Utrechtse Heuvelrug with forests, country estates and 'mountains'. You can enjoy lovely walks in the area along the Kromme Rijn or in the beautiful forests.

You are so there

Wherever you want to go, you can get there from our country estate. Towns and nature are within cycling distance. The NS station is a ten-minute walk away and by car you are directly on the arterial roads. You are never far away to get to the most beautiful or pleasant places.

For extensive information on what to do in the area, check out Discover Utrecht in our app and check out some of our Buitengoede hotspots below!

The fort is an attraction for young and old, with interactive exhibitions about the waterlines, the Romans and the nature on the forts. One of the highlights is the oculus rift parachute jump above the waterline. There are guided tours of the fort led by a guide who tells you everything about the forts and the waterline and shows you the beautiful, historical buildings.

The Dom Tower (Utrecht)

The iconic Dom Tower is the pride of Utrecht. A special monument with a unique story. With a height of 112 meters still the highest church tower in the Netherlands.
The tower has been the center of the city for centuries and has witnessed the joys and sorrows of its residents. The tower survived fierce storms, occupations by foreign rulers and fires, but also saw parties, flourishing trade and urban expansion pass by. For more visitor information see Domtoren.nl

De 7 steegjes (Utrecht)
The 7 alleys (Utrecht)

Our favorite, not the 9 streets Amsterdam, but the seven alleys in Utrecht. One of the last working-class neighborhoods in the center of Utrecht. These characteristic workers' houses between the Oudegracht, the Pelmolenweg, the Geertekerk and the former Martinuskerk are known for their small appearance and network of narrow corridors and alleys and super nice rummage shops.

Kastelen en landgoederen (Utrechtse Heuvelrug)
Castles and estates (Utrechtse Heuvelrug)

From country house Rhijnauwen you make a beautiful trip through the woods, to hidden gems in the green. Beautiful estates and a castle make this route a topper!

The Treek

You follow the Old Rhine basin to Landgoed Oostbroek and Zeist, where tree-lined avenues extend the forest into the city. A beautiful cycle path leads you through Boswachterij Austerlitz, part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. Forests, heathland, old estates: this is an enormously varied area. You pass Den Treek, an estate whose history dates back to the fourteenth century, with a beautiful nineteenth-century farm and gamekeeper's house. What a picture!
